Don’t become a blackhole

The book of Genesis affirms that God made the stars along with the two great lights that he created and set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. (Genesis 1:16-17). Stars in the sky emit light. The Sun (one of God’s creation) in our Solar System is a star that emits light. In order for a star to be able to emit light, it must first have light within itself, that it can emit. A celestial phenomenon that is related to stars is referred to as the blackhole. This is also referred to as the death of a star. In this phenomenon, the gravitational forces within the star prevents anything from escaping, including light.

The Bible also teaches us that those who serve the Lord God in turning many to righteousness found in Jesus Christ alone, will be like stars for ever and ever and the wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament (Daniel 12:3). So who are the wise? Proverbs 11:30 states that one who winneth souls is wise. So followers of Jesus Christ who believe in him, that are faithful in his great commission of proclaiming the message of reconciliation with God, are like stars that God has recreated (as a new creature) in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are expected to give the LIGHT of the World i.e., Jesus Christ, to the world. In order for us to be a star emitting Jesus, we must first have him within. We must have first believed and received him. Secondly, we must not let the gravitational forces of self and sin make us so self-centered that we prevent anything from escaping us, including Jesus, for in doing so, we become a blackhole.

Points to ponder:
Do you have the Light of the World (Jesus Christ) in your life? In order to have him shine in your life, all you need to do is just believe that he is the Light of God that was sent to shine on darkness.
If you have believed in him, then are you a star shining forth the Light of Christ from your life so that people living in darkness (without Christ and a relationship with God) can see The Light that dispels all darknesses?
Or, are you a blackhole, consumed by self and sin, self-centered, ineffective and dead, even though you are alive (Revelation 3:1)?

Genesis 1:16-18 (KJV)
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Daniel 12:3 (KJV)
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Proverbs 11:30 (KJV)
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Revelation 3:1 (KJV)
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

God’s perfect will

Often we hear people saying, if it is the will of God, then I would do this or that. We pray for God’s will to be done in and through our life, seldom pausing to find out what that will of God is. Romans 12:2 commands us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so that we may prove the perfect will of God. So what is this perfect will of God?

Jesus said, that he came to do the will of God (Hebrews 10:9). Paul, in his letter to Timothy writes that Jesus came to save sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). So by using these two texts, we can extrapolate, that God’s perfect will is to save sinners through Jesus Christ.

Points to ponder:
Are you/I doing the perfect will of God? Proverbs 11:30 affirms that a soul winner is wise. So those who do the will of God, by presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to those who are unsaved, for the salvation of their souls, are wise. In other words, to do the perfect will of God, by pointing the sinner to the Savior Jesus Christ, who came to save, is to be wise. Are you/I doing the perfect will of God? Are you/I wise?

Hebrews 10:9 (KJV)
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

1 Timothy 1:15 (KJV)
15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Proverbs 11:30 (KJV)
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

Lesser known characters :: Ethan

If I was to ask you, do you know, who penned the famous words, that we sometimes sing, “I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing, I will sing; I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord. With my mouth will I make thy faithfulness, thy faithfulness to all generations”, it is less than likely that one would realize that it was written by Ethan the Ezrahite and secondly that it is the first verse of Psalm 89. Psalm 89 was authored by Ethan, It starts with Ethan expressing that he would sing of God’s mercy forever and make known the faithfulness of God to all generations with his mouth. He ends his Psalm, by saying “Blessed be the Lord forever, Amen and Amen”.

Who is this Ethan? Ethan was the son of Mahol, who was known for his wisdom. His wisdom was only surpassed by king Solomon (1 Kings 4:30-31). In fact, the very first name that is mentioned in relation to comparing the wisdom of Solomon is Ethan the Ezrahite (1 Kings 4:31). From the scripture, we can be assured that Ethan was wise. How can we be so sure. Proverbs 11:30 states that a soul winner is wise and in order to win souls, one must understand that they must sing of God’s mercy and tell of God’s faithfulness, which is exactly what Ethan writes in the beginning of his Psalm (Psalm 89:1).

What can we learn from Ethan?
To be wise as he was we must be soul winners, which means, we must be singing of God’s mercies forever and telling of his faithfulness which was to redeem us from the penalty and power of sin and death, by sending us His Only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the FAITHFUL and TRUE (Revelation 19:11) one. Everyone who believes in Jesus will not perish but will be saved i.e., their souls will be won for God’s kingdom from the grips of the devil.Let us be more like Ethan the Ezrahite. Blessed be the LORD forever, Amen and Amen.

1 Kings 4:30-31 (KJV)
And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.

Psalm 89:1, 52 (KJV)
1 I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
52 Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.

Proverbs 11:30 (KJV)
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
